DC & Philadelphia Middle School Program

Discover the origins of American democracy as you explore Capitol Hill, Independence Hall, and other exciting sites!

Travel beyond the capital to America’s birthplace.

Our Washington, DC, and Philadelphia Middle School Program helps students understand the significance of American democracy, from its early years to modern times. During this five-day/four-night trip, students consider how America’s revolutionary experiences shaped ideas about rights, democracy, and liberty.

Guided by our highly trained instructors, Close Up students have the opportunity to:

  • Discuss the historical events that have shaped our nation through visits to must-see sites in DC and Philadelphia;
  • Engage with peers to debate pressing national issues in an interactive Mock Congress;
  • Visit the National Constitution Center to experience the history of the Constitution and understand what it means today;
  • Explore Independence Park and the birthplace of our nation;
  • Learn the origins of the Liberty Bell and how it became such an iconic symbol; and,
  • Make lifelong friendships and exchange ideas with students from around the country!
